Vision Professional S-Series Kamado

By Max Good

Manufacturer: Vision Grills

Vision Grills, based in Saint, Louis, MO., is a kamado company to keep your eye on. They're coming on strong with patented, innovative designs that stand out from the ever growing kamado crowd. Foremost is their unique ProZone system, a slide out insert that includes dual damper air intake, ash removal tray and an electric fire starter. In 2016 they introduced an optional Quickchange Gas Insert that slides into the bottom and converts ProZone models into a gas grill for a quick, mid-week meal.

Vision Professional S-Series Kamado

vision slide out ash trayVision's Professional S Series Kamado has some unique and interesting features not found on other ceramics. Their ProZone System, (shown left), is a slide out ash tray with dual intake dampers and a slot for the optional electric fire starter. A calibrated cast iron exhaust damper is located at the top of the dome. Vision's goal is to make use easier - easier start up, easier ash removal.

To this end they created the optional Quickchange Gas Insert, (lower right) that may be swaped out with the ProZone to turn the S Series from a kamado to a gas grill for a quick work night dinner. Quickchange is a slide out vision quickchange gas insert25,000 BTU stainless steel burner that includes a heat diffuser and Visions round Lava Rock diffuser and stainless steel bracket. The LP tank hose has a quick connect end and a round LP tank Caddy with a wheel that attaches to the cart is also included. Vision claims once the kamado is seasoned, foods will have a hint of smoke flavor even when grilled on gas. There have been isolated reports of difficulty sliding the Quickchange burner in and out. We're told this is an anomaly that is being corrected. Meanwhile, Vision assures us they can and will take care of any buyers who experience this issue. Call Vision Customer Service at 314-428-3166.

Vision kamados are rather well made, especially considering the modest price which is often reduced dramatically for promos. The hardware and insulation are far superior to Char-Griller's Akorn, and other low cost kamados like Pit Boss.

vision two level gratesYou gotta love the stainless steel two level hinged grates, (pictured right), that are characteristic of Vision. The top grate is hinged for easy access to the lower level, which is also hinged for adding wood and tending to charcoal. Speaking of hinges, the dome hinge is substantial enabling smooth opening and a shock absorbing bumper up front insures a delicate landing when closing the heavy hood.

This nice package deal includes a solid, powder coated stand on four casters with fold down wood side shelves and a cover.

One has to wonder if all the do-dads integrated in the slide out bottom are susceptible to unwanted air intake, but most owners seem very pleased with their Visions. Lifetime warranty on the ceramic, 5 years on metal parts, and 90 days on everything else.
