On October 8, 2015, Brinkmann filed for Chapter 11 under the US bankruptcy code.  Cheap Offset Smokers like this Brinkmann can ruin your day, party and marriage. Don't buy them! We have a lengthy dissertation explaining why. In short: they are hard to use and don't produce the best BBQ results. This Brinkmann model is exactly the same as Char-Broil's American Gourmet Deluxe, with bigger... Read More

We do not like or recommend cheap offset smokers like American Gourmet. Yes, the sticker price is low, the big horizontal drum looks like your BBQ dream come true, and if you don't mind spending time and money for parts, (not to mention ruined meat), you may eventually get one to work OK. But they are a nightmare for a novice and by the time you add your hours and out of pocket expenses... Read More

Char-Broil's Silver Smoker, for some strange reason painted black, is extremely popular because it is inexpensive. It is cheaply constructed and rusts easily. It leaks smoke around the chimney and doors, and rain gets in around the chimney. It has 738 square inches of cooking area, enough for about seven slabs of St. Louis cut ribs. Because it is not as tight as the more expensive... Read More

PlaceholderBlack upright bullet smoker placed in a silvery base with an electric control panel and an electric power cord.
Char-Broil's Big Easy Electric Infrared Smoker and Roaster has a clever, innovative design looks better on paper than in practice. It is also offered in a gas model. It is barrel shaped and opens from the top. There is a stainless steel inner liner that is separated from the outer shell by an air gap. Electric heating elements turn the liner into a radiant heater. Calling it infrared is... Read More

Char-Broil's The Big Easy Gas TRU Infrared Smoker and Roaster has a clever, innovative design looks better on paper than in practice. They also make an electric model. It is barrel shaped and opens from the top. There is a stainless steel inner liner that is separated from the outer shell by an air gap. A ring of propane burner jets lies in the bottom of the air gap and heats the gap... Read More

PlaceholderBlack horizontal barrel pellet smoker mounted on for legs with four wheels and a lower shelf. A chimney is attached to the left and a box with an electric control panel to the right.
Char-Griller tried to hop on the pellet smoker bandwagon with this halfhearted attempt at making a mid-size product. Had they introduced this closer to 2010 at the same price, it would have been a viable entry level pellet smoker. Now it's a relic, made by a company with notoriously poor quality. Although it does have an old Ortech style notched dial digital controller, which is better... Read More

About the only good thing we can say about the Char-Griller Smokin' Pro is the price is unbeatable. MSRP on this is way inflated. You can easily find these for substantially less. Many wide-eyed first time smokers, including me, thought it made sense to buy this tin can as a starter model to learn what BBQ smoking is about before moving up to a more expensive cooker. The problem with... Read More

PlaceholderSmall shiny steel dome with a black knob on the top. This is a cut away view that shows the inside. There is a small pile of charcoal at the bottom and a round cooking grate right above loaded with meat and vegetables.
The Cobb Premier Portable Charcoal Grill is a unique stainless steel grill. Weighing just 8 pounds and needing only 8 charcoal briquettes to cook for about 2 hours, Cobb Premier can grill (poorly), smoke (nicely), boil (just fine), fry (no prob), or bake (yes it can), although you'll need some additional Cobb accessories to fully utilize its capabilities. The problem isa that foods are... Read More

PlaceholderMasterbuilt 30" Electric Digital Smokehouse with Top Control
The Masterbuilt 30" Electric Digital Smokehouse with Top Control, (also made with the Cabela's label), is a clever concept, with flawed execution. We get regular emails from people whose MBES are malfunctioning, more than any other grill or smoker. They have a few other electric models and all have some interesting features but Buyer Beware! We bought two of these back to back. The... Read More

3) Tell us everything we need to know to help such as the type of cooker and thermometer. Dial thermometers are often off by as much as 50°F so if you are not using a good digital thermometer we probably can't help you with time and temp questions. Please read this article about thermometers.
