2019-04-15 New Initiative for Healthier School Lunches

What was served for lunch when you were in elementary school? Chances are that salad was not on the menu, or at least not much of one. A new partnership aims to change that by giving elementary kids some healthier options at school in addition to the usual pizza, burgers, hot dogs, French fries, and tater tots. The nonprofit FoodCorps has partnered with Sweetgreen, a restaurant chain that serves salads, in a program called Reimagining School Cafeterias. The program's goal is to show that fresh, healthy foods can be very tasty when kids have the power to choose which foods they put on their plates, just like you do at a salad bar. The program has been piloted in three schools in diverse areas of the country and will expand to five schools this spring. Sweetgreen has committed $1 million to the program, which plans to expand to 50 schools throughout the country by the 2020 school year. Get the full story here.

3) Tell us everything we need to know to help such as the type of cooker and thermometer. Dial thermometers are often off by as much as 50°F so if you are not using a good digital thermometer we probably can't help you with time and temp questions. Please read this article about thermometers.
