Digital Thermometers:
Stop Guessing!

thermopop bbq thermometer

Gold BBQ AwardA good digital thermometer keeps me from serving dry overcooked food or dangerously undercooked food. You can get a professional grade, fast and precise splashproof thermometer like the Thermopop (above) for about $24. The Thermapen (below), the Ferrari of instant reads, is about $96. It's is the one you see all the TV chefs and all the top competition pitmasters using. Click here to read more about types of thermometer and our ratings and reviews.

GrillGrates Take You To
The Infrared Zone

BBQ_grill_grates

Gold BBQ AwardGrillGrates(TM) amplify heat, prevent flareups, make flipping foods easier, produce great grill marks, keep small foods from committing suicide, kill hotspots, are easier to clean, flip over to make a fine griddle, smolder wood right below the meat, and can be easily removed and moved from one grill to another. Every gas grill and pellet smoker needs them.

The Smokenator:
A Necessity For All Weber Kettles

smokenator bbq system

Gold BBQ Award If you have a Weber Kettle, you need the amazing Smokenator and Hovergrill. The Smokenator turns your grill into a first class smoker, and the Hovergrill can add capacity or be used to create steakhouse steaks.

The Pit Barrel Cooker

pit barrel c ooker bbqAbsolutely positively without a doubt the best bargain on a smoker in the world.

This baby will cook circles around the cheap offset sideways barrel smokers in the hardware stores because temperature control is so much easier (and that's because smoke and heat go up, not sideways).

Gold BBQ AwardBest of all, it is only $269 delivered to your door!

scissor tongs

Best. Tongs. Ever.

Gold BBQ AwardMade of rugged 1/8" thick aluminum, 20" long, with four serious rivets, mine show zero signs of weakness after years of abuse. I use them on meats, hot charcoal, burning logs, and with the mechanical advantage that the scissor design creates, I can easily pick up a whole packer brisket. Click here to read more.

About Our Product Reviews And The AmazingRibs.com Best Value Medals

all three medals"Being discovered by AmazingRibs.com is one of the milestone moments of our young company. Meathead's audience is worldwide and his loyal followers have become great customers. We proudly display our Gold Medal on all our packaging and literature!" Brad Barrett, GrillGrates

By Meathead Goldwyn

The AmazingRibs.com Best Value Medal winners are recommended products that we have tested or that have been tested by our reliable sources.

Awards are based on features, construction quality, and value. Price is an important criteria. Rarely will a $400 Gold Medal be in the same quality league as an $800 Gold Medal or a $1,200 Gold Medal, so it is important that you read the reviews to see what we say about the construction quality and features.

Gold Medal. Among the best of its type in its price category. A strong buy recommendation if this is your budget.

Silver Medal. A fine product among the best in its price category with only minor shortcomings. Recommended for purchase if a Gold Medal is not available.

Bronze Medal. A good product, better than average, but may be making in features or quality compared to higher rated products. Worth considering for purchase if you cannot find or afford a Gold or Silver Medal.

Not Recommended. These are products that we think are poor choices compared to competitors based on price, features, and construction quality.

Not Judged Yet. These are products that may be award caliber, perhaps even Gold Medal caliber, but we do not know enough about them yet to give them an award.

How we review

We purchase many of the products we review although occasionally suppliers send us samples. We have always been transparent about when we are reviewing a manufacturer's sample, even before the Federal Trade Commission Required it in 2009. We have a written policy about samples for suppliers that makes it clear that we will call 'em as we see 'em. After we are done with samples we often give them away, we never sell them. Many of the nearby fire departments have nice new grills because of this policy.

These are truly unbiased reviews. We do not make or sell anything, and our advertising is sold by third party ad networks. We are not involved in the process. Rest assured that when we recommend a product, it is really because we like it, not because someone has paid us to say so or because the company is an advertiser or sponsor. Manufacturers are never charged to have products reviewed or be included in the listings.

Most of the reviews are by Max Good, Director of Equipment Reviews & Keeper of the Flame, and Meathead, Chief Barbecue Whisperer & Hedonism Evangelist. The author of each product's review is named at the end of the writeup.

Here's a key to our reviews. This information is included in every review.

Cooked On It. This means we have hands-on experience testing this product. We have also gathered info from the manufacturer, owners, and other reliable sources.

Looked Closely At It. This means we have seen this product up close and we have also gathered info from the manufacturer, owners, and other reliable sources.
