Kenmore’s PG-40402SOL 4-Burner Gas Grill has 3 tube burners and an older ceramic infrared “searing burner” under one hood in the firebox. It comes with porcelain enameled cooking grates and two side shelves with a side burner on the right. These grills are attractive and the IR burner may seem sexy, but they are poorly made with cheap materials. This type of ceramic burner is way out of date and has, in recent years, begun popping up on many cheap gas grills as a value added feature. And it is useful as long as it continues to function. But Kenmores aren’t made to last and only carry a one year limited warranty. Of course Sears would love to interest you in an extended warranty.
The double door cart is painted steel and available with either bright red or mocha porcelain coated hood and doors. Kenmore is owned by retail giant Sears and headquartered at the Sears complex in Hoffman Estates, IL. Although Kenmore is a respected name for kitchen and home appliances, not so much in the BBQ world. Like Nexgrill and their various brands such as Jenn-Air, Kenmore benefits from the substantial foot traffic provided by a national presence on Sears’ showroom floors. The good news is Sears runs specials throughout the year on these cookers and they really should be offered at discounted rates because the MSRPs are overpriced. One can easily find better grills in the range of Kenmore sticker prices.
