There is no backlight, but the display has large numbers, making reading easy. The response time is very good at 5 seconds. The ability to capture the maximum temperature or freeze the current reading make using it effortless. It will auto-shutoff after 10 minutes. It has a self-calibration feature that lets you verify accuracy using an ice bath.
