This relatively inexpensive hand-held rapid-read thermometer has fair accuracy and fast response times. It cannot be left in food in the oven while cooking.
This full-range, compact digital thermometer has reasonably good performance coupled with an ergonomically-designed handle. It can be calibrated at any known temperature to maintain accuracy. Its main shortcomings are a short probe and no backlight. It does have a min/max button and a hold button, as well as the ability to switch between F and C temperature scales. It will auto-shutoff after ten minutes. For convenience, it has a lanyard and a belt clip.
The manufacturer’s name and contact information are found on the instruction manual, and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty from a reputable manufacturer.
The combination of a reasonable price, fast response time, good ergonomics, a calibration feature and fair accuracy earn this unit a Silver rating. Slightly better accuracy and a longer probe would have gotten it a Gold rating.
