The ThermoPro TP-02S is a hand-held, quick-read thermometer. It features a long 5.375″ (13.6cm) probe with a narrow tip to improve response times.
This thermometer has excellent accuracy and fairly good response times. It doesn’t rate up there with the fastest units, but at seven seconds, it’s not bad.
The overall build quality is only fair but the price is less than $7, so it’s almost a disposable item. The battery door isn’t sealed, and moisture could easily get inside the compartment where the electronics live. The buttons are placed on the back side of the unit and are easy to press accidentally. The display has a fixed orientation and is best for a right-handed user. There is no backlight.
The unit comes with a one-year limited warranty, and the company contact information, including a telephone number, e-mail address and website, is provided on a card that accompanies the product.
How to rate this? It’s not very well designed or made, but it’s so reasonably priced. You could buy a couple of these units for less than most competitors’ prices on a single unit, and then just toss them out if they fail. I give it a Bronze Medal not for quality but for overall value.
