The ThermoWorks DOT TX-1200 is intended for use in food while cooking. It has a large readout, an easily-set alarm temperature and a long probe cable. It has a rapid response time that would allow it to double as an instant-read thermometer if desired. We gave it a top rating for its build quality and performance.

Most vertical lift grills have no hood, which limits their capability to some degree. Scottsdale employs a removable hood and back windbreak.

Cosmetic flaws might have been forgiven if performance shined as brightly as Coyote's stainless hood. Unfortunately the Coyote CCX2-LP "Grill in a Box" has a remarkably uneven heat pattern, forcing one to constantly flip flop foods from the hot zones directly above the burners to various less-hot zones everywhere else.
